Israel thwarts double suicide bombing

Friday, June 03, 2005 |
Israeli security forces have thwarted an Islamic Jihad plot to carry out a double suicide bombing here in Jerusalem this week. The attack was planned for Thursday, but security forces smashed the terror cell, arresting seven Palestinians from the Islamic Jihad. Police say one of the bombers planned to blow a bus and another a night club. One of the explosives belts was found Beit Hanina, an Arab neighborhood in Jerusalem. The incident contradicts a statement by Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, who told an American TV network that the era of suicide bombings is over.
