Lawlessness in Nablus

Sunday, June 05, 2005 |
About 15 Palestinian gunmen raided two Palestinian Authority offices in Nablus today, another sign of lawlessness in the territories. The terrorists, from the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, stormed the Interior Ministry and fired in the air at the entrance to the Nablus governor’s home. The gunmen, who are part of Mahmoud Abbas’ ruling Fatah movement, demanded jobs and guarantees that they will not have to turn in their weapons if Israel hands Nablus over to the Palestinian Authority. Under the cease-fire agreement, Abbas is required to disarm terrorists in cities under his control. So far, Abbas’ efforts to restore law and order have failed.
