No headway in ending Palestinian lawlessness

Thursday, June 09, 2005 |

Palestinian Interior Minister Nasser Youssef says there's no "magic wand" for restoring law and order in Judea, Samaria and Gaza. Youssef told Palestinian legislators that police are coping with armed gangs, weapons manufacturers and drug dealers. He said the Palestinian security forces were weakened during four years of conflict with Israel, and he seemed to blame the late Yasser Arafat. Youssef said the Palestinian Authority sent its forces into “defeat, not battle.”
