Poll shows declining support for pullout

Friday, June 10, 2005 |
A new poll shows Israeli public support for the Gaza pullout has plunged to 53 percent, a drop of 16 points since February. Another poll earlier this week put support for the withdrawal at just 48 percent. Opposition to the plan stands at around 40 percent. Pollsters say many Israelis are growing weary of the turmoil over the plan, which is dividing the nation. Also doomsday predictions like Dichter’s and that of other senior defense officials have Israelis drawing the conclusion that the pullout won’t accomplish anything. The plunging polls have given settlers a boost; they believe there’s still hope to stop the withdrawal.
