Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will visit Jerusalem and Ramallah this weekend for separate talks with Israeli and Palestinian leaders. The aim is to help both sides coordinate Israel's planned pullout from the Gaza Strip this summer. The US hopes that a quiet withdrawal would give a boost to the “roadmap” peace plan. Next week, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon will discuss the pullout with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, their first summit since declaring a cease-fire four months ago.
