Meeting to coordinate Gaza pullout

Wednesday, June 15, 2005 |

Israeli and Palestinian field commanders held their first meeting to coordinate the Gaza pullout. Though Israel originally planned to withdraw from Gaza unilaterally, it is now coordinating the move with the Palestinian Authority to ensure a peaceful transition. The aim is to prevent attacks by Palestinian terrorists during the withdrawal. During the meeting, Israeli General Moshe Kaplinsky warned the Palestinians that Israel would not withdraw under fire and would respond to attacks. Coordinating the Gaza pullout will top the agenda when US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice holds separate talks with Israeli and Palestinian leaders this weekend in Jerusalem and Ramallah.
