Gaza pullout under fire?

Monday, June 20, 2005 |

The Samaria attack came a day after a visit by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who won a commitment from Israeli and Palestinian leaders to coordinate a peaceful Israeli pullout from the Gaza Strip this summer. But Islamic terrorists may want settlers and troops to withdraw under fire, to give the impression that they drove the Israelis out. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that Israel will not pull out of Gaza under fire. At the same time, he vowed that the withdrawal will take place on schedule, beginning in mid-August.
