Israel Celebrates And Rejoices Over The Giving Of The Torah

Sunday, September 30, 2018 |  Ariel Rudolph

Jews all over the world will sit in their sukkot (booths) for the last time. The week-long Feast of Tabernacles is over. This last day is an extremely joyous occasion enjoyed by many Jews the world over. On this day we celebrate the giving of the Torah. This holiday is called "Simchat Torah", translated as "Rejoicing in the Torah".

In synagogues, the Torah scrolls are taken out of the cabinets and led through the hall, dancing. Some celebrations even spill out into the streets leading many passersby to join in the festivities.
