More Palestinian lawlessness

Friday, June 24, 2005 |

Palestinian gunmen opened fire on a police station in the town of Jenin, killing a Palestinian officer. Then, the gunmen went to the home of a Palestinian parliamentarian and burned his car. The rampage followed the arrest of a fellow gunman by police. Later, police launched a search for the gunmen and there were exchanges of fire. It's another sign of lawlessness in the territories. Many ordinary Palestinians are fed up with the gang rule on their streets, but Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has been unable to keep his promise to restore law and order.
