Soldier refuses orders

Monday, June 27, 2005 |

An Israeli soldier made headlines when he refused to obey orders, as the army evacuated the settlers from abandoned buildings yesterday in Gaza. “Jews are beating Jews. This is not right!" the soldier said. "This is not just." The soldier lives on the settlement of Tekoa in Judea, and the incident set off alarm bells. The army fears that other right-wing soldiers will refuse to evacuate the 21 Gaza settlements, if and when the order comes in mid-August. That could spell chaos in an already chaotic situation.
