Arab Man Shot Dead for Allegedly Selling Land to Jews

It might seem a relic of darker times to most Westerners, but there are places in the world where it remains a capital offense to sell land to Jews.

One of those places is the Jews' own biblical homeland in Judea and Samaria, most of which is currently controlled by the Palestinian Authority.

On Saturday, a Palestinian Arab man with residency in Israel-proper was gunned down in his hometown of Jaljulia after it was reported that he had sold personal property in the so-called "West Bank" to Israeli Jews.

Ahmed Salama was declared dead at Meir Hospital in nearby Kfar Saba following a drive-by shooting. Palestinian media reported his "crime" matter-of-factly, though Salama had earlier denied the allegations that he had conducted any land transactions with Jews.

An American-Palestinian named Issam Akel remains in Palestinian Authority custody for selling property on the eastern side of Jerusalem to Jews.

Another Palestinian-American, 31-year-old Suha Jbara, made headlines in Israel over the weekend after appearing in court in Jericho and accusing the Palestinian Authority of torturing her.

Jbara remains imprisoned for unspecified crimes. Her revelations have shined a spotlight on recent reports that the Palestinian Authority and the Hamas regime in Gaza routinely resort to psychological and physical abuse of Palestinian Arab prisoners.
