Hizbollah launches cross-border attack from Lebanon

Wednesday, June 29, 2005 |

Islamic Hizbollah terrorists in Lebanon fired mortars at three Israeli army posts on the northern border. Israeli forces responded by shelling suspected Hizbollah positions in South Lebanon. There were injuries to Israeli troops, but details have not been released. The clash took place in the disputed Chebaa Farms area. Though Israel withdrew from Lebanon to the international border in 2000, and the UN recognized the pullout as complete, Lebanon claims the Chebaa Farms as part of its territory. Hizbollah, which seeks the destruction of Israel, has used the disputed territory as an excuse to launch occasional cross-border attacks.
