Sharon sends a tough message

Friday, July 01, 2005 |

The fact that it took commandos just half an hour to evacuate 150 Jewish nationalists from the barricaded Gaza hotel shows that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon means business. He sent a clear message that the evacuation of the Gaza settlements will begin on schedule in mid-August. While the evacuation is bound to be turbulent, the security forces showed that they are up to the job. Sharon described the squatters in the Gaza hotel and others involved in violent protests as a “gang of extremists.” “It's hooliganism,” Sharon said. “The Gaza withdrawal will be carried out because it's good for Israel.”
