A Lone Soldier Receives A Surprise At His Graduation Ceremony!

Wednesday, March 13, 2019 |  Ariel Rudolph

Eyal (22) did not know that his mother was in Israel when the graduation ceremony started and he was extremely excited when he saw her enter the hall. The Jewish Agency had planned the surprise and sponsored his mother to visit Israel from far away Venezuela.

Batsheva said that she is very proud of her son, who immigrated to Israel as a "Lone Soldier" and, after completing his army service, decided to be involved in preparing young people for service in the army. "We raised our children to love Israel and support the land," she said.

Eyal will spend the next few days on vacation with his mother at his sister's house. Eyal's sister (28) has been in Israel since 2009, and Eyal immigrated four years later. Both siblings served as "Lone Soldiers" in the Israel Defense Forces.

Despite the difficult situation, Batsheva will return to Venezuela where she works as a scientific coordinator at the Herzl Bialik Jewish School in Caracas. The Jewish community in Venezuela is about 5000 people strong and includes synagogues, Jewish schools, a community center and more.

"I miss my children living in Israel, but I can not afford to visit them more than once a year, the economic situation in Venezuela is difficult, the cost of living is high and buying kosher products is even more expensive", said Batsheva. "I do not have enough words to thank the people in the preparatory course who helped me attend the graduation ceremony. The fact that my son, who emigrated to Israel as a "Lone Soldier", today prepares young men and women for meaningful service in the Israeli army and thus continues to support Israel, makes me very proud."
