Hamas won’t join Palestinian government

Monday, July 04, 2005 |

The Islamic terrorist group Hamas has rebuffed an invitation to join the Palestinian Cabinet. "Forming a unity government at this late time will not be useful," said Hamas spokesman Mushir al-Masri. Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas invited Hamas to join the Cabinet to insure a peaceful Israeli pullout from Gaza. Israel opposes Hamas' entry into the government, charging that it is a terrorist organization. The question now is whether Hamas will launch attacks against departing Israeli soldiers and settlers. If it does, that could torpedo the Gaza pullout.
