Gaza pullout opponents plan mass protest

Jewish settlement leaders are hoping that tens of thousands of people will turn out for a three day march on the Gush Katif settlement bloc in Gaza to protest the pullout which is just six weeks away. The protest is due to begin on July 18. “First of all, we're fighting for democracy, which means the people have a voice,” said settlement activist Israel Meidad. “We don't want to have the government's policies completely override the people's right to protest.” The settlers say it's the “opening shot” aimed at forcing the government to cancel the “expulsion” of more than 8,000 Jews in Gaza from their homes.
