Israeli police rejected the settlers’ request to stage a mass march to the Gaza Strip in protest of the government’s decision to uproot settlers from their homes. Despite the police decision, settlers plan to begin marching this evening from Netivot. Police said protesters will not be allowed to walk further than Kfar Maimon, where they will spend their first night’s rest. The Gaza Strip is a mere 20 kilometers (about 12.5 miles) from Kfar Maimon, but police plan to prevent protesters from going further. More than 15,000 soldiers and police are prepared to block any entrance into Gaza. Nonetheless, the Council of Jewish Communities in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza (Yesha Council) plans to stage “the greatest protest in Israeli history.”
