With a final score of 78-53, the US women’s basketball team soundly defeated the Israeli team in the Maccabiah final. Teammates Shay Doron, a University of Maryland undergraduate with dual American and Israeli citizenship, and Jennifer Fleischer, who begins her senior year at University of Pennsylvania this fall, led their team with 21 and 23 points, respectively. Doron was named the tournament’s most valuable player. “We never let up because we knew the Israelis are tough and could come back at any minute,” Fleischer said after the game.
