Dov and Rachel Kol were returning from Gush Katif to their home in Jerusalem after spending the Sabbath with Rachel’s sister, when terrorists opened fire at the cars on the Kissufim road, killing them and wounding five others, one of them the couples little son. The Kols were laid to rest Sunday evening at Har HaMenuhot cemetery in Jerusalem.
According to reports, terrorists initially fired an anti-tank rocket at the road, but when it failed to harm anyone, they opened fire with automatic weapons, killing the Kol´s and wounding five.
Hours after the attack, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said, “I made it clear to the US Secretary of State [who is visiting Israel] that our reaction [to attacks] will be a different kind, with the addition of very harsh means, whether it takes place during or after we evacuate the Gaza Strip.”
After the attack, the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) divided northern and southern Gaza and cut off all Palestinian access to the Kissufim junction at the entrance to the Gush Katif Settlement Bloc.
