Likud Member of Knesset Omri Sharon, son of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, agreed not to oppose lifting of his parliamentary immunity to allow him to stand trial. Sharon is charged with collecting illegal campaign funds for his father. While the Prime Minister had no comment on the indictment, former Prime Minister Ehud Barak (Labor) said that accepting the plea bargain “pulls the rug out from under the legitimacy of his father.” During the previous month’s negotiations between State Attorney General Menahem Mazuz and Sharon’s attorney, Dan Scheineman, Mazuz agreed to drop two of the charges included in the original indictment.
