Anti-disengagement protest to march forward

Monday, August 01, 2005 |
Following long hours of meetings between the police and leaders of the Council of Jewish Communities in Judea, Samaria, and the Gaza Strip (Yesha Council) to reach a compromise on the protest rally and march, Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz stepped in and ruled out the planned rally in the Negev town of Sderot. He claimed the ongoing threat of Kassam rockets presented too great a threat to the protesters’ safety. Mofaz called on Yesha leaders to take responsibility for dealing with the situation. He said that they have permission to rally in Ofakim if they promise not to march further into Gush Katif.
