Arab Adaptation of Anne Frank performed in Acre

Tuesday, August 02, 2005 |

In the first Arabic adaptation of the Diary of Anne Frank, entitled Anna and Kitty, Anat Khadir played the lead role. A Druze actress, Khadir said that while there’s no real comparison to what the Jews’ suffered during the Holocaust, Anne Frank symbolizes people who suffer under political hardships. While admitting that harsh conditions exist in the PA-controlled areas, she’s disgusted with those who compare Israeli soldiers to Nazis. During his IDF service, Khadir’s brother served in parts of Judea and Samaria. To the 30-year-old actress, Anne Frank symbolizes people of all backgrounds, including herself.
