50,000 rally in Sderot, plan to proceed to Gush Katif

Wednesday, August 03, 2005 |
Nearly 50,000 people from all over the country gathered in the Negev town of Sderot to rally against the government’s planned pullout of Jewish settlers from the Gaza Strip. After the mass rally, they made their way to Ofakim, south of Sderot, to spend the night before heading to Gush Katif. Police say they’re already on the lookout for groups that may have split off and are en route to Gush Katif. Settlement leaders say this rally was only the kickoff of an unending campaign to thwart the pending withdrawal. Several members of Knesset (parliament) also participated in the rally, including speaker Reuven Rivlin and Shas Party leader Eli Yishai.
