As thousands prepare for massive prayer rallies at the Western Wall, police are also gearing up for the two days preceding the scheduled evacuation of Jews from the Gaza Strip. This year, Tisha b’Av (the 9th of Av), the Jewish day of mourning marking the destruction of the First and Second Temples, falls within the same two days, on Sunday, the 14th. Police are considering preventing people from going to the Temple Mount, as they did last year, fearing that mounting tension might inspire someone(s) to cause some kind of disturbance in a last-ditch effort to thwart the expulsion plan. The Temple Mount is a volatile place where tensions between Moslems and Jews can be ignited with the least provocation.
