Late last night, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and his Cabinet ministers approved the 2006 state budget of 272 billion shekels ($60 billion), initially proposed by the former finance minister, Binyamin Netanyahu. Before voting on the budget, the Cabinet unanimously approved the appointment of Ehud Olmert (picture) as acting finance minister. Olmert said he was going to keep Netanyahu’s goals for the deficit and spending.
