Just a day before the government's puts its eviction plan into action, Kfar Darom residents spoke to reporters at a press conference. Exuding a quiet strength that typifies the Gush Katif residents, Kfar Darom Spokesman Asher Mivtzari said, "We [the settlers] have already won." He called the government's plan "a brutal transfer of families, widows and orphans whose only sin is that they had heroically withstood four years of terror." Kfar Darom resident Yaakov Goldberg had this to say: "No one has been able to convince us that this is a moral act. We will not cooperate with such a vile plan. Soldiers cannot take a child away from his home just because they have received orders to do so: they must turn to their commanding officers and tell them they cannot carry out the order. We believe God and the people of Israel will stop this plan." Another resident added, "I had hoped that in the aftermath of September 11, the western world would understand, but I guess it will take many more years. September 11 and the Madrid and London bombings are just the tip of the iceberg. This is a global war."
