Forced evacuation

Wednesday, August 17, 2005 |

After a 48-hour grace period to move out, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) marched into several settlements to forcibly remove settlers. Soldiers went in unarmed and are attempting to place remaining residents on buses that will take them to hotels in the Negev. In spite of the resistance, 10 of the 21 settlements have been partially evacuated, and Nisanit, Dugit, Pe’at Sadeh and Rafiah Yam have been completely emptied. Settlers in these communities are resisting only passively and if they leave within the coming hours, they’ll be allowed to leave in their personal vehicles.
