U.S. Jews donate $14 million to greenhouses for Palestinians

Saturday, August 20, 2005 |
According to the Jerusalem Post, the Bush administration convinced American billionaire Mort Zuckerman to raise millions to ensure that the greenhouses of Gush Katif, built and managed by their former Jewish owners, would be passed on to Palestinians intact. The paper reported that the former president of the World Bank, James D. Wolfensohn, who is now the White House envoy to the Middle East, contacted Zuckerman on behalf of the Bush administration. The government was concerned that 3,500 Palestinians could take over the greenhouses, earning a living from the flowers, fruits and vegetables produced by the Jewish farmers.
