Sharp talk in the Knesset

Monday, August 22, 2005 |
During a meeting of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Member of Knesset Uzi Landau (Likud), who left the government earlier this year over the Gaza withdrawal, sharply criticized Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. “You brought Israel to new heights of corruption. You do not deserve to be a leader,” said Landau. MK Effie Eitam (Religious Zionism), fired earlier this year for his opposition to the government’s withdrawal plan, promised that his faction would work hard to ensure his “removal from the political map.” He also said that every year on Tisha B’Av, the day that Israelis mourn the destruction of the Jewish Temples and other tragedies in Jewish history, they would also remember “the destruction you sowed in an entire region and the whole country.” MK Ran Cohen of the left-wing Meretz-Yachad party praised the Prime Minister for advancing the pullout plan.
