Evacuation completed in six days

Wednesday, August 24, 2005 |

It took just six days to uproot approximately 10,000 Jews from 23 communities, 21 in Gaza and two in northern Samaria. Now the IDF is busy demolishing their homes, which Chief of Staff Dan Halutz estimated would be completed by September 3rd. After that, it will take an additional 10 days to two weeks to evacuate Israeli army bases and personnel from the Gaza Strip. The IDF wants to get its soldiers out as soon as possible. The Southern Command said that without the Jewish settlers, the soldiers left in Gaza are “sitting ducks” for Palestinian terrorist attacks.
