Jewish neighborhood opposite Mt. of Olives

Friday, August 26, 2005 |
The Israeli police station opposite the Mt. of Olives has been there as long as most people can remember. But with police headquarters moving to a new location near Ma'ale Adumim, the old headquarters will be available. Negotiations are underway between Ateret Cohanim, an organization whose goal is to ensure a Jewish presence throughout the Israeli capital, and Buhcarin Jewish community in Jerusalem, which owns the property. Though it's located in the predominately Arab neighborhood of Ras el-Amud, there's a 51-unit apartment complex across the street that Ateret Cohanim established. "It makes perfect sense that we will extend the Jewish presence on one of the holiest mountains to the Jewish people," said Ateret Cohanim spokesman Daniel Luria.
