Gunmen kill Palestinian general in Gaza hit

Wednesday, September 07, 2005 |

About 100 masked gunmen stormed into the heavily-guarded home of Palestinian general Moussa Arafat in an upscale neighborhood in Gaza City, dragged him out and killed him! His son was kidnapped. Arafat, 65, was a former security chief and the most senior Palestinian official killed in internal fighting. He was a cousin of the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. “It’s an attack on the government,” Palestinian Cabinet Minister Sufian Abu Zeideh told Israel Army Radio. "He [Arafat] was a symbol of the [Palestinian] Authority.” Arafat was a warlord known for an iron fist and he had many enemies among Gaza’s well-armed militias. The incident points to a power struggle and growing chaos, as the Israeli army prepares to withdraw from Gaza later this month.
