Gaza pullout ahead of schedule

Friday, September 09, 2005 |

Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz says that by Tuesday of next week, no Israeli soldiers will be left in Gaza. So Israel's 38-year presence in Gaza could end two days ahead of schedule. Originally, the army planned to be out of Gaza by Monday, but the expected destruction of the synagogues will take an extra day. Today, the army blew up the remaining Gaza bases and a bridge. Soldiers will deploy in armored vehicles until the pullout is complete. A Palestinian was killed last night by troops and another wounded as they tried to cut through the fence at the former settlement of Atzmona.
