Israel completes final stage of pullout

Wednesday, September 21, 2005 |

The last Israeli troops pulled out of four abandoned settlements in northern Samaria, completing the final phase of Israel's withdrawal that began in Gaza a month ago. Thousands of Palestinians moved in to celebrate, honking horns and setting rubble ablaze, as gunmen fired in the air. "With these guns we drove them out of this area, and we will drive them out of other areas as well," said a masked terrorist from the Al Aksa Martyrs Brigades. But unlike Gaza, the area will remain under Israeli military control and will not be handed over to the Palestinian Authority.
