Sharon in the driver’s seat

Wednesday, September 28, 2005 |

After fending off a revolt for the leadership of the ruling Likud party from former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Ariel Sharon is in control. A new poll shows that when elections for the Likud leadership take place in six months, Sharon would take 47 percent of the vote, compared to 34 percent for Netanyahu. The poll was published in the Hebrew daily “Ha’aretz.” The hawkish Likud wanted revenge after Sharon pulled out of Gaza, but the Prime Minister has made amends by launching the Gaza offensive.
