Monday, October 17, 2005 |
Following the success of last year's "Sukkah of Light", which drew dozes of thousands of visitors, this year the mayor of Jerusalem, Uri Lupolianski has initiated, in association with “Mekorot” and "Hagihon" companies, the construction of a "Sukkah of Water" at Safra Square. This will be the largest sukkah in the world – 30 meters long, 16 meters wide and 6 meters tall – a total of 480 squared meters. 2 water screens, 3X6 meters will be placed at the entrance to the sukkah and holiday motifs will be displayed on those screens. Major Holiday events in Jerusalem will take place at the sukkah, including the mayor's reception to ambassadors and diplomats, the people of Jerusalem and new immigrants, on Wednesday, October 19th at 17:00. The Simchat Torah festivities will also take place at sukkah. Admission to all events at the sukkah is free.
