Arafat's tomb to get a facelift

Wednesday, October 26, 2005 |

The cash-strapped Palestinian Authority plans to spend $1 million to build a posh mausoleum over the grave of the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat in the town of Ramallah. Palestinian officials say a mosque and museum will be constructed next to the tomb. The museum will house some of Arafat's trademark items, including his keffiyeh headdress and pistol. Critics say the project is extravagant, considering that most of the Palestinian people are living in poverty.
