UN Security Council condemns Iran

Sunday, October 30, 2005 |

The UN Security Council has condemned the call by Iran's president to "wipe Israel off the map." "The members of the Security Council condemn the remarks about Israel attributed to Mr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, president of the Islamic republic of Iran," said Mihnea Motoc, Romania's ambassador and current council president. "Under the United Nations Charter, all members have undertaken to refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state." Israel's U.N. ambassador Dan Gillerman said he was "very satisfied" to have heard "a very clear condemnation by the Security Council."
