An Israeli soldier was killed in a gun battle with Palestinian terrorists during an arrest raid in Samaria. The army said a firefight erupted after troops arrested an Islamic Jihad terrorist in the village of Yirka near Palestinian-ruled Jenin. The Islamic group Hamas claimed responsibility. The soldier was identified as Sergeant Yonatan Evron, 20, from Rishon Letzion near Tel Aviv.
