Conspiracy theory

Though Yigal Amir confessed to shooting Yitzhak Rabin three times and was found guilty, conspiracy theories abound. The most popular is that Israel's Shin Bet security service planned the assassination and that Amir was an agent. Theorists say Amir fired blanks and then Shin Bet operatives killed Rabin in his car on the way to the hospital. Though most Israelis believe it's outlandish, the theory is that Rabin's successor, Shimon Peres, ordered the assassination.
