World Chess Championships in Israel

The sleepy desert town of Beersheba is hosting the World Chess Championships. Beersheba is associated with the Biblical patriarch Abraham, but now it has a new claim to fame. The Israeli town has the highest number of chess grand masters per capita in the world, most of them immigrants from the former Soviet Union. The grand master who organized the event, says he's using chess to fulfill the Zionist vision of making the desert bloom!
