Israeli army Chief of Staff Lieutenant-General Dan Halutz told a parliamentary committee that the military will continue its policy of assassinating top terrorists from the Islamic Jihad group. “What is called a targeted killing was a very, very effective measure in our fight against terror,” said parliamentarian Tommy Lapid, who was present at the meeting of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. Halutz said Israel has dealt a severe blow to Islamic Jihad since the group carried out a suicide bombing that killed six Israelis two weeks ago. In effect, he was saying, “Why quit while we're ahead?”
