The Likud is in disarray

The Likud is in disarray following Sharon’s departure. The first meeting of the hawkish Likud Central Committee without Sharon was supposed be a show of strength, to demonstrate that the Likud can thrive without the Prime Minister. But the big hall was largely empty—only about 500 of the party's 3,000 registered committee members attended. The party is also deeply divided. No less than six senior members are vying for the Likud leadership vacated by Sharon. Heading the pack is former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
