Study: Jews are born smart

Wednesday, November 30, 2005 |
Ashkenazi Jews (of European origin) are genetically intellectually superior, according to a recent “scientific” study entitled “Natural History of Ashkenazi Intelligence.” University of Utah professors Gregory Cochran, Jason Hardy and Henry Harpending suggest in the study there is a genetic explanation to account for this remarkable intellectual achievement. They base their hypothesis on four observations: Ashkenazi Jews have the highest average IQ of any ethnic group; Ashkenazis have a low intermarriage rate; historic restrictions on professions allowed to Jews, such as money-lending and banking, in which higher intelligence favors economic success, led to increased reproductive success; and genetic mutations responsible for diseases commonly found in Ashkenazi Jews are responsible for improved intelligence. This study, which has drawn some criticism, is to be published in The Journal of Biosocial Science in 2006 by Cambridge University Press.
