Sharon appears unbeatable

Friday, December 02, 2005 |
A new poll shows that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's new centrist party will crush his former Likud party in early elections set for March. The survey, published in the Hebrew daily “Ma’ariv,” gave Sharon 37 seats in the 120-member Knesset (parliament), compared to just nine seats for the Likud. The dovish Labor party would win 26 seats. Sharon is a tough former general and a security hawk, yet he withdrew from Gaza and is prepared to give up parts of Judea and Samaria. That combination seems to have strong appeal to the Israeli public.
