Israel hits Gaza after rocket strikes on southern Israel

Sunday, December 04, 2005 |
Israel Air Force jets retaliated against Palestinian rockets that were fired at a southern Israeli town over the weekend. The air force fired a missile into the offices of a Palestinian terror organization in Gaza City, Israel Radio reported. Earlier, air force jets struck at rocket launch sites in three separate bombings. Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz ordered the army to take immediate steps to intensify its response to the rocket attacks. There were no reported casualties from the missile strikes. The Palestinian rockets landed in an open field and did not hurt anyone. Also this weekend, the Israeli navy sank a fishing boat off the Gaza coast after an exchange of fire. The military said the boat had entered forbidden waters and ignored an order to stop. Palestinians on the boat and on land fired at the navy ship. The navy returned fire, killing 22-year-old Ziad Dardawel.
