Sharon takes another leap in the polls

Friday, December 09, 2005 |

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's decision to leave his hawkish Likud party is paying off as Israel heads for early elections on March 28. The latest poll shows Sharon crushing his opponents, with his new centrist party winning 39 seats in the 120 member Knesset (parliament), an increase of four spots from the previous survey. Sharon's former Likud party would win just 13 seats, down from its current 40. The dovish Labor party would win 23 seats. A headline in Israel’s biggest newspaper “Yediot Ahronot” read: "Sharon is skyrocketing."
