Another Likudnik jumps ship

Sunday, December 11, 2005 |

Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz became the latest defector from the Likud party joining the ever expanding Kadima party established by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. Mofaz, who had been campaigning for head of Likud, said he left the party because it has become an “extreme right-wing party.” A poll published on Friday found that Mofaz would have ended up a disappointing fourth in the race for Likud leadership. According to the poll, former prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu would defeat his closest rival in the polls, Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom, for the position of Likud chairman.
