Nearly 80 percent of Gaza evacuees still unemployed

Monday, December 12, 2005 |
The majority of Gaza evacuees are still jobless, according to a study released by Israel’s Ministry of Industry, Trade & Employment. The numbers show that 78 percent of Gaza evacuees are unemployed since being evacuated from their settlements in the Gaza Strip this summer. This initial study is the first in a series that will be conducted by the state, tracking the employment levels and absorption of the evacuees. Emily Amrusi, spokeswoman for the Council of Jewish Communities in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip accused the government of not doing enough to help the evacuees. She said that instead of focusing on his new political party, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon should “take responsibility for the families whose futures he destroyed with his own hands.”
