While the Jerusalem municipality is gearing up for its annual Christmas tree distribution at Jaffa Gate in the Old City, Jewish resident are preparing for Hanukkah, which begins at sundown on Sunday. The Christmas tree distribution is a tradition of the Jerusalem Municipality, dating back dozens of years. Mayor Uri Lupolinaksi, an Orthodox Jew, wished a Merry Christmas to the Christian residents of Jerusalem. With Hanukkah coming up, former Gaza residents are preparing for Hanukkah in their temporary homes and hotels around the nation. “When we arrived here this past August, our friend joked that he could start putting up his succah (the outdoor booth where Jews eat during the Feast of Tabernacles) because he could sense we were going to be here for awhile. I laughingly said that I can put up my hanukkiah, and look, sadly, we're still here,” Miriami Naumberg said.
